A complete 4 year body off bare metal restoration was completed in 2020. Finished in bright red the uniformed paintwork gives a deep gloss shine and is flawless throughout. All panels and wings are in excellent order, the panel fit is perfect and door closures as per it left the factory. The chrome work has a mirror finish throughout much of it being replated or replaced with quality items. The original radiator looks amazing as you can see from the pictures. The underside of the car is equally as impressive as the top, new floors, restored excellent framework, and factory finish paintwork throughout all protected by a thin coat of clear underseal. The canvas hood, side screens and frame work all new. A Moss original style removable luggage rack complements the look of this show standard TD.
The original steel pressed vented wheels have been fully refurbished, the chrome hubcaps with the famous octagonal MG badging are in fantastic order. Sitting on all matching excellent Bridgestone B80 165/80 R15 tyres. The brake system has been completely overhauled with every component being new, she pulls up with ease and perfectly straight.
The original matching numbers XPAG 1250cc in-line four engine with twin SU carburettors was fully rebuilt by Ivor Searle during the restoration and runs on unleaded fuel, needless to say she runs perfectly and sounds beautiful through the full stainless steel exhaust. Starting hot or cold is instant, idling is perfectly balanced and she pulls strong in every gear. The original gearbox has been replaced with a new Ford Type 9 5 speed making it a joy to drive in modern traffic this alone cost in excess of £4000, gears are selected with ease, the clutch is light and progressive.
The engine bay is fully detailed throughout and supports the original MG brass vehicle identification plaques... Such fun to drive.
This original RHD Series "TD" was built May 1950. This TD was 1 of only 10 exported in CKD form, (knockdown form as a kit to be built in the destination country), to the city of East London, South Africa and dispatched 25th May 1950.
Fully restored in South Africa and returning back to the UK in 2009. The second UK enthusiast MG owner was not happy with the quality of the restoration work and subsequently carried out a full nut and bolt body off restoration over a 4 year period to create this incredible TD we have today, completed in 2020 and covered only 68 miles since. This TD sat proudly amongst his MG car collection it truly is second to none.
The leather bound history file is packed with hundreds of invoices for the restoration work, the parts alone total over £18,780. There are pictures of the complete restoration including engine rebuild, MG Car Club original records, original owners handbook and South Africa registration documents.
MOT until August 2022 and of course this MG TD is HPI Clear.
