Interior & Equipment
The original spotless interior is remarkable, as you would expect from such a low mileage example. The ‘Storm’ trim in Shark Grey with contrasting Crushed Velour detail can only be described as new. Incredible throughout with no signs of wear, bagging or damage and is beautifully clean and bright. The original colour-keyed carpet is very clean and free from adverse wear.
The ‘soft feel’ 2 spoke steering wheel, all switchgear, interior lighting, dual-speed heater, perforated black headlining, original Ford seatbelts date stamped May 1983, gear knob, and unmarked soft touch dashboard again are all as new just as it left the showroom in July 1983. The original Ford P21 factory fit radio operates perfectly, instruments all sharp and bright. The fabric trim door cards are unmarked and still remain as factory fit, the perfectly straight unmarked rear parcel shelf with correct rubber hangers again still looking as new. The boot area retains an unmarked removable boot floor and aftermarket black carpeting for protection. Amazing…
Exterior
This 80’s hot hatch is finished in the rare and very desirable factory option colour Caspian Blue, (code 3 3), and has a brilliant uniformed deep shine throughout. All original panels are perfectly straight and gaps as per it left the factory, the front wings clearly date stamped May 1983. All original trim sections, bumpers and Ford fitment decals are in exceptional order throughout. Correct Hella headlamps, spotlights and original rear light clusters are all perfect. Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
The original genuine 1983 date stamped five pepperpot 13” x 6” alloy wheels have been refurbished to an exceptional standard without compromising the raised Ford and manufacturing markings. Fitted with all matching excellent Hankook 185/60 R13 tyres. The unused spare still supports the original Pirelli P6 tyre, the original Ford supplied jack and wheel brace have never been used.
Dual line servo assisted brakes with ventilated 9.4” front discs and 7.0” rear drums work perfectly with a very positive peddle feel.
Engine & Transmission
The 1599cc OHV Crossflow engine with single Weber twin-venturi carburettor punches out a lively 84 BHP. The fully detailed engine bay presents all its original factory plates and stickers. The engine is super quiet, starts instantly hot or cold, no smoke or adverse rattles, pulls strong flawlessly through every gear. The clutch and 4-speed gearbox operate perfectly as you would expect.
Such fun to drive, precise steering and responsive handling along with the distinctive XR2 sound, 0-60 in just 9.3 seconds and a top speed of 105mph you cannot fail to be impressed with this light and nimble hot hatch.

Bramall document wallet containing the original Ford Service plan, handbooks, Ford Motorists Guide, Ford Audio Guide, Ford Fiesta XR2 Operating Supplement, original tax disc holder still in the window plus many past tax discs. As stated by Ford... 'Highly tuned but not highly strung" The Fiesta XR2 arrived on the scene in 1981. Following on from the short lived 1.3-litre Supersport, the XR2 featured a 1.6-litre Kent Crossflow engine developing a ‘healthy for its time’ 84bhp. Running through a 4-speed manual gearbox, it was capable of reaching a top speed of 105mph and could complete the 0-60mph sprint in 9.3secs.
The XR2 featured black plastic trim both inside and out, while the headlights were round units, replacing the standard model’s square-like offerings. For early 80’s boy racers, the Mk1 Fiesta XR2 became a cult car, enhanced by its short production run before the arrival of the Mk2.
