Interior & Equipment
The interior of this Clipper is in excellent order, sports seats finished in black & grey stripe along with matching unmarked cloth and vinyl covered door panels. The seats are in beautiful unmarked and wear free condition even the driver's side bolsters are perfect. The white headlining is mark free, the original black carpets are excellent throughout having been protected by genuine VW black rubber overmats. The original fascia and trim sections are perfect all controls, gauges and digital clock work as they should The soft touch dash is unmarked and crack free, the interior represents everything you would expect from such an original low mileage car... Lovely.
Exterior
Finished in factory Alpine White (Code L90E) the all original panels and paintwork has a deep uniform shine with no signs of damage or corrosion. Remarkably the original black power hood is completely unmarked and as new. The framework is excellent and effortlessly operates hydraulically to fold away neatly under the rear black factory tonneau. Originality is key with this lovely Clipper, every factory sticker is in place, original option code sticker, factory inspection stamps remain in the boot area, original dealer number plates, original VW 'On Call" breakdown window stickers, even the silver fuel grade sticker above the fuel fuller cap, All original unmarked VW Securit tinted glass... Time warped.
The bumpers, wheel arch trims, rubber side mouldings and all other body trim sections are excellent and scuff free. As you can see from the pictures the panel fit is as it left the factory, all original Hella lights and original VW decals are perfect. It's evident that the car has been protected from an early age with a Ziebart type clear coat in all internal and potential water trap areas.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
Fitted with the original newly refurbished flawless original steel wheels with original VW centre caps. Dressed with new all matching 185/60 R14 Dunlop Sport Blu Response tyres, the original space saver spare wheel has never been fitted. Brakes are excellent all round having a strong peddle feel pulling up sharply and true.
Engine & Transmission
The legendary 4 cylinder 1.8 engine producing 97 bhp is smooth and performs strongly giving an excellent and very responsive performance. It starts on the key first time hot or cold and idles perfectly. A top speed of 97 mph and 0-60 in 11 seconds make this a fun car which cannot fail to impress. The automatic gearbox selects gears easily and is very smooth in operation. Great fun to drive. The engine bay is all original, very clean and detailed throughout.

This beautiful Clipper was first registered new to Mr D.Kimsey on 21st May 1992, supplied by VW main agents Dovercourt Motor Company, St. John's Wood Road, London. Mr Kimsey cherished the car for 26 years until 10th July 2008 when it was sold to its second keeper of 12 years.
The original leather A5 wallet comes complete with the original instruction manual, handbooks, original sales brochures and literature. This Golf comes with a very comprehensive history file dating back to day one, there are 19 past MOT certificates including the first dated 10th May 1995 recorded mileage 6176. Making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 1979, the soft top Golf was offered in most countries as the GLi with a 1588cc GTi engine and stiffer suspension, alongside the GLS which had the 70bhp 1457cc unit. The GLi convertible was upgraded with the 1.8 GTi engine in 1982 and the smaller petrol lump was replaced by the 1595cc carburettor unit in 1983.
Of course, the Mk2 Golf replaced the Mk1 in 1984, but the cabriolet version kept the beautifully retro lines of the classic original Golf for much longer. However, in 1988 there was an attempt at modernisation when moulded bumpers, integrated front and rear spoilers and sill and wheel arch extensions were added.
Spec levels were improved in 1990 and for the first time, a hydraulically operated power hood became an optional extra.
