The original black leather interior has been completely re-trimmed in recent years to a very high standard including new deep pile luxury carpets throughout complemented with Healey branded rubber overmats. The wood rim Mota-Lita steering wheel is in excellent order dressed with the original Austin Healey centre boss. The original Smiths gauges work perfectly as they were intended and have crystal clear glass showing no adverse signs of ageing or deterioration... Stunning
Finished in Duotone original Colorado Red (Code 3742) and Old English White. The bodywork and chassis was subject to an extensive restoration in 2012. The complete body and chassis bare metal stripped, sanded/painted to perfection giving a uniformed deep gloss shine. It's clear to see from the pictures that it's still stunning today which is testament to the outstanding quality of workmanship carried out 8 years ago. The panel fit and gaps are perfect throughout as per it left the factory. All body fittings, trims, bumpers, door handles etc. have been refurbished or replaced using quality parts. All lights are original Lucas fitments, the original Triplex Laminated Windscreen is in exceptional order.
The underside of the car plus inner and outer wheel arches have all been professionally and sympathetically undersealed during the body work restoration undertaken during 2012.
The 5 painted 60 spoke wire wheels and chrome spinners are in excellent order. All matching quality Michelin XAS165/80 HR15 tyres have plenty of tread remaining.
The original Girling disc front brake system and rear drums have been fully restored with all new brake lines, refurbished and painted calipers, they pull up very strongly and are perfectly balanced.
The engine bay houses the rebuilt incredible original 2912cc OHV 6-cyllinder inline engine combined with the manual 4 speed gearbox with overdrive. The engine has covered a mere 4450 miles in the last 33 years and since being rebuilt. Needless to say she runs perfectly with no overheating issues and starts perfectly on the button from hot or cold, the sound is tremendous through the full stainless steel exhaust system. The clutch is light and progressive in operation, the fully refurbished gearbox offers a positive and precise gear change having synchromesh on top 3 gears, overdrive comes in and out quickly and smoothly... A joy to drive and what a sound track.
This stunning matching numbers Austin Healey 3000 is supplied with a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate. Built 24-25 August 1960 as a UK RHD home market vehicle and despatched 6th September 1960 to P Pike & Company Limited, Plymouth Devon. Its understood that this Healey spent much of its early life in the USA before returning back to the UK in 1987.
The last owner of 33 years and avid Austin Healey Club Member since 1990 has cherished this Big Healey to the present day. The history file contains 30 past MOT certificates dating back to May 1989 when the mileage was 2209, plus many invoices and receipts for servicing and repairs carried out over the years.
Works carried out over past three decades include an extensive body restoration in 2012 to the highest standard with exceptional attention to detail, all original steel panels, completely restored original interior, full mechanical overhaul including gearbox, brakes and suspension - all with original refurbished items or new sourced from specialist Companies. The Austin-Healey 3000 is probably the very epitome of the classic British sports car and said to have attained classic status whilst still in production.
The Austin-Healey 3000 was announced on 1 July 1959 with a 3-litre BMC C-Series engine to replace the smaller 2.6-litre engine of the 100-6 and disc brakes for its front wheels. The manufacturers claimed it would reach 60 mph in 11 seconds and 100 mph in 31 seconds. Production discontinued April 1961, total produced at the Abingdon factory - 2,825 BN7(2-seaters) 10,825 BT7(2+2 seater)
