Interior & Equipment

The interior of this camper has been laid out as a day bus with a circular rear seat layount in red and cream leatherette.  There are seatbelts for 3 but it can easily seat 5 adults.  The red and cream theme has been continued throughout including the immaculate door cards and front seats. Matching curtains all round, bunting and cushions create the perfect look.  The headling is tight and unmarked throughout. The front has tailormade carpets and the rear wipeable VW logo quality lino. The original Bakelite steering wheel is in good order, unspoilt dashboard, original speedo works well although it does read quite slow, new fuel gauge and retro rev counter have been fitted, premium sound system with CD. To summarise this is a clean, sharp interior that suits this desirable camper.

Exterior

This distinctive and desirable first generation T1 Splittie was restored in 2007 when it arrived into the UK from Jakarta and is still in exceptional order today.  During the restoration where possible originality was key and its understood that the roof which has some patination is all original paint. Being a genuine factory RHD mean the barn doors open in the left hand side.

The stunning two-tone paintwork in Ruby Red and Cream has a deep bright uniformed shine throughout with super straight panels, excellent panel fit and gaps. Almost all glass is original VW and very clear in the 11-window shell with excellent soft rubber seals, front and rear safari windows,  2 x pop-out side windows. All external lights and brightwork are in stunning order.

The chassis is in exellent order and has been professionally but lightly waxoyled. As part of the restoration upgrades and modifications were made to make it more useable and to enhance the appearance including a lowered and narrowed front beam that incorporates rack and pinion steering and independent lowered rear suspension.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes

Filling the arches are set of unmarked 5 spoke Empi style 15-Inch 5.5J polished alloy wheels, shod with all matching excellent 185/65 R15 tyres.  As part of the restoration work the brakes were upgraded to servo-assisted front disc brakes. The brakes are good and much improved over the original VW setup.

Engine & Transmission

The spotlessly clean engine bay houses a fully rebuilt AD code 4-cylinder Twin Port Air-Cooled rear mounted Boxer engine increased to 1800cc. Combined with twin carburettors she pulls strongly with no hesitation and effortlessly keeps up on motorways and dual carriageways. Needless to say she runs perfectly with no issues, starts from hot or cold easily, idles as it should, the clutch is light and progressive in operation, the 4-speed fully synchronized Beetle gearbox gives a more comfortable ride and higher top speed it's positive and precise in operation...  Wonderful, such fun to drive and what an unmistakable sound track.
