DRIVER & PASSENGER COMFORT OF THE MOST LUXURIOUS ORDER...
The original interior was subject to a complete overhaul by John McAleese, Jaguar specialist, Troon, Ayrshire and completed late 2012.
The seats were fully rebuilt, frames set up and repacked and trimmed in period green Ambla fabric, fully retrimmed door cards with rechromed door furniture. New tailored to perfection headlining is taught and sun visors trimmed to match with a chrome edge finisher, new wool piped carpets throughout, including the boot floor and two sets of overmats to the original design.
The original polished Burr Walnut dashboard, top roll and door cappings were removed and assigned to GDK Veneering Ltd, Crewe, Cheshire , who re-veneered and lacquered the complete wood trim set to the finest of standards
All interior lighting, clear original Smiths gauges, switches, and electrics work as they were intended. Fitted with a 3-spoke Moto-Lita thick grip woodrim 15-inch polished steering wheel, aluminium centre boss and gear knob, completes this stunning interior... A true gentleman's cockpit, simply beautiful.
The outstanding and correct Sherwood Green paintwork presents in near perfect order.
The whole body shell was subject to a major bare metal overhaul by John McAleese, Jaguar Specialist and completed in late 2012.
The original body was stripped to a bare shell, fitted with Coombs style rear spats and meticulously painted to the concours standard John McAleese was known for. Today 14 years later the paintwork is simply flawless, offering a deep, uniform shine with factory panel fit, shut lines, and gaps.
The underside is completely painted in Wurth wax underbody protection in black.
All bright work presents with a mirror like finish having either been replated or replaced using quality items throughout, original Lucas lighting all around with the exception of better performing new Hella H4 headlights, the original Lucas L549 rear lights have been upgraded with high power brighter red tail/brake lights, and orange flashing through the original red lens
The original Triplex Toughened glass presents in excellent order all round, including the windscreen... Simply outstanding.
WHEELS - Fitted with Turrino aluminium rimmed 5.5 x 15 competition 72 spoke wire wheels and painted in body colour, Sherwood Green with polished rims - £5172, fitted with all matching excellent Michelin XVS 185 VR15 tyres - £1288
BRAKES - The disc brake system has been completely overhauled and uprated by John McAleese Jaguar Specialists during the restoration completed in 2012. Coopercraft International calipers fitted with 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears. The brakes are exceptional, offering a reassuring feel, pulling up with ease and perfectly straight.
SUSPENSION / HANDLING - Fitted with a wider MK2 rear axle for better handling and stance, plus a Harvery Bailey Engineering handling kit and Koni adjustable shock absorbers. The car has been very slightly lowered at the recommendation of Ian Callum when judging it at the Concours Of Elegance, Palace of Holyroodhouse of which the car won.
The fully detailed engine and engine bay houses the incredible Jaguar XK 3781cc straight 6 engine with 220 bhp at 5500 rpm, new 5-speed Getrag gearbox and fitting kit from Germany, full stainless steel exhaust system and manifold, uprated cooling system with an aluminium radiator painted black for authenticity and SPAL high performance fan, fully rewired using an Autosparks loom.
The engine was completely rebuilt by noted VSE Jaguar Engine Rebuilders, Llanbister,
Llandrindod Wells, Powys. Sadly, there's no supporting paperwork, but John McAleese's brother confirmed that this engine and all of their engines only went to VSE for all rebuilds. A mere 3038 miles have been covered since completion in 2012.
On the road, she cannot fail to impress, with spirited acceleration and top speed, light power steering, confidence-inspiring road holding, and excellent brakes.
Needless to say, she runs perfectly hot or cold, maintains excellent oil pressure, and sounds tremendous through the full stainless steel double exit exhaust system. The manual all synchromesh 5-speed Getrag gearbox selects with ease, the clutch light and progressive... A thrill to drive and what a soundtrack.
Supplied new to Rossleigh Jaguar, Edinburgh on 29th October 1958 and first registered on 1st November 1958, and still on its original issued registration number. Originally a 2.4 automatic in Sherwood Green with a Tan interior.
Purchased by noted John McAleese Jaguar Restoration Specialists and Jaguar Drivers Club Scotland Chairman to restore the car for himself with the intention of creating the ultimate Jaguar MK1 road car. John sourced this particular car for restoration as he specifically wanted a Scottish registered car with low mileage for his project and to keep in his own collection.
With over 50 years as proprietor of a 12,500 sq ft automotive body shop, John built a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, specialising in Jaguars and BMWs. His work was highly sought after, with many vehicles prepared to Concours d’Elegance standards, a testament to his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to perfection.
This particular car is indeed a testament to that attention to detail and craftsmanship, having won The Concours of Elegance at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, a prestigious 2015 three-day event showcasing over £100 million worth of rare classic cars. Ian Callum was one of the judges and particularly admired what John had created.
This particular car came from John's personal collection after his sad passing and purchased from his daughter Michelle in 2022. The car had been in storage for some time following John's passing and was subject to a comprehensive service and recommissioning totalling £10,434. With buying the car plus extensive servicing, recommissioning, improvements and modifications this car now stands the owner at over £125,000.
A further comprehensive 12,000 mile service was completed at a cost of £1447 on 28th May 2025 and covered circa 100 miles since.
The history file contains the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, invoices totalling tens of thousands of pounds of expenditure since being purchased from the McAleese family in 2022, 10 passed MOT certificates, the first being 27th April 2011 during the restoration period and having covered a mere 3038 miles since.
Today, this beautiful and unique Jaguar MKI is presented in exceptional order throughout which is a testament to the outstanding quality of workmanship carried out by John McAleese 14 years ago. Exceptional paintwork, underside and interior, fully detailed engine, engine bay and mechanically perfect, it's certainly a rare opportunity and one not to be missed.
