The deep pile dark stone beige carpets with original MG carpet overmats are free from wear and look as new. The original leather gear knob is unmarked these are often replaced with wooden items due to adverse wear… A stunning cockpit.
The immediately recognisable hourglass shape of the MG RV8 is finished in optional pearlescent Woodcote Green, (Code HPE) at a cost of £750 when new. A uniformed and deep gloss finish is evident throughout. The all original correct panels produced by Abbey Panels are virtually unmarked and panel fit as per it left the factory. The original factory fitted soft top made by Tickford is pristine and rear screen perfectly clear, the original half tonneau is perfect also comes with a full tonneau. All original external decals are in exceptional order as is the brightwork and lights. The original windscreen still supports the factory etched chassis number… A Classic is born.
The unmistakeable lattice cast alloy 15x6J road wheels have been fully diamond cut and restored to the highest standard to remove the inherent lacquer lifting issues that plagued these cars. The original MG centre security caps are unmarked. The Zender split rim bolts have no corrosion or damage. All Matching Goodyear 205/65 R15 tyres are as new. The Servo assisted ventilated front disc brakes with 4-piston callipers and rear drums give the car excellent braking capability.
The 3.9 litre V8 is extremely usable with lots of torque and 190bhp giving effortless midrange power. 0-60mph in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 135mph this MG is no slouch. The engine bay is spotlessly clean and factory original with all markings plates and stickers present. The addictive V8 burble through the twin stainless exhaust pipe is magical. The strong 5-speed gearbox changes with ease and precisely, the clutch is light and progressive, also comes with EZ Power Steering making it a joy to drive.
The MG RV8 was always destined to become a classic with just 1983 units made. This outstanding example spent thirteen years with the only Japanese owner, Mr Otani of Oiso, Kanagawa who purchased the car from Sanachi Motors, Odawara on the 6thApril 1995. The history file contains original service invoices from new through to 2006 all carried out by MG Authorised Dealers Sanachi Motors. The MG was re-imported back to the UK in 2008 where it has only had only 1 MG Owners Club enthusiast owner since. A brand new VDO in mph was installed and professionally fitted by Clive Wheatley in October 2009. At this stage the original VDO read 22379km since then a further 1979 miles have been recorded on the new VDO making a total of 15965 fully documented miles. The comprehensive history file contains original keys, MG Leather bound wallet with MG Handbooks, maintenance manual, every MOT since 2008 and a collection of paperwork for servicing and repairs since new.
The MG RV8 was bought to fruition by Rover Special Projects team, a team of 30 planners, engineers and designers based at Gaydon, Rovers test track in Warwickshire. Headed by RSP Director, Steve Schlemmer, the project was called Adder in recognition of the Anglo-American Cobra of the 60s, their objective was to recreate the MGB as it would have been had it never left production. Launched at the British Motor Show in 1992, the MG RV8 marked the welcome return of the MG sports car and the famous octagonal badge. At a price of £26,500 when new just 1983 units were made of which 1581 were sold to Japan.
