Soft and supple red leather seats with matching door cards present beautifully. The red metal dash with gold painted facia has been fully refurbished and is unmarked. New contrasting deep pile black carpets piped in black have been fitted throughout.
The original Jaeger instrument gauges all work perfectly and look stunning complimented by the multi-spoke steering wheel with gold MG centre boss, all electrical switches work as they were intended.
The rear has been fully retrimmed to match, here you will find the original starting handle and discrete storage box that houses the immaculate side screens, and aftermarket seat belts have been fitted... Simply beautiful
Totally restored by its long term owner of 40 years Mr J. Pilkington and completed 2008.
Finished in cream the complete body and chassis have been stripped, sanded/painted to perfection giving a uniform deep gloss shine. It's clear to see from the pictures that it's still stunning today which is a testament to the outstanding quality of workmanship carried out. The panel fit and door closures are perfect throughout. All brightwork has been either rechromed or replaced using genuine parts where possible, original Lucas lighting all round with Lucas spot and fog lights.
The red canvas hood, hood frame, hood enveolpe and side screens all new, the hood still has the protective film on the screen. A black full tonneau cover completes the look of this wonderful series TF.
The underside of the car is equally as impressive, works included stripped and painted chassis in correct black semi-gloss, suspension, fuel tank, propshaft, diff, leaf springs, new floors etc etc the list goes on and on nothing missed.
The attention to detail and condition... Simply amazing
The 5 x 60 spoke chrome wire wheels and MG 2 ear chrome spinners are in stunning blemish free order. All matching quality 165 VR15 Blockley tyres are as new, the spare has never been fitted.
The drum brake system has been fully overhauled, she pulls up with ease and perfectly straight. Steering is precise and responsive... A pleasure to drive
The original matching numbers XPAG 1250cc in-line four engine with twin SU carburettors has been fully rebuilt and bored out to 1350cc with a high-lift cam, the cylinder head was refreshed in April 2011.
On the road she runs perfectly and sounds beautiful. Starting hot or cold is instant, idling is perfectly balanced and she pulls strong in every gear. The original 4-speed gearbox selects with ease, the clutch light and progressive, the rear axle ratio has been reduced to 3.9, she easily keeps up with modern day traffic and such fun on A and B roads.
The engine and engine bay are fully detailed throughout.
The supplied British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate documents the car was dispatched from the factory 4th May 1954. Registered new to Mr Gavin Hamilton, Great Chesterford, Essex on 19th May 1954.
The history file is simply outstanding. There's a large box of files with hundreds of invoices detailing servicing, maintenance and restoration back to the 1960's, past tax discs the oldest being June 1968, green logbook, many MOT certificates back to 1981, original MG Midget Series TF Operation Manual, workshop manuals etc.
From 1974 to 2014 the car was owned by Mr J. Pilkington. Mr Pilkington has kept meticulous handwritten notes, sketches and receipts for work carried out even down to various trim samples from suppliers during its restoration process.
It's understood that this TF was owned by a famous UK band member and fully restored in tribute to his father who owned one in 1955.
This is an excellent opportunity to own a stunning exceptionally restored MG Series TF with history back to the 1960's, UK home market car, matching numbers and still on its original Cambridge issued registration number MER 770, it's certainly one not to be missed...
