The classic lines of the 2000 GTV two-door coupe. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone who styled some of the most beautiful cars of all time. It was an exotic car for the masses and a contender for representing Italy's pinnacle of automotive production...
Finished in Rosso Alfa. This solid South African supplied GTV was completely stripped back to a bare shell by S.A Classics Limited, Poole, Dorset, and painted to perfection inside, outside, and underneath. The front and rear valances were replaced along with new wheel arches, all panels are Bertone items. The history file contains many images of the restoration program which was completed in 2016, along with many invoices for parts and specialist work carried out.
The paintwork throughout has a uniform gloss finish and looks stunning. There's no evidence of rot which was all too common with these 70's Alfa's. The brightwork is mainly original and presents beautifully, the original distinctive grille with horizontal chrome bars, featuring protruding blocks forming the familiar Alfa heart in outline and enamel badge are in exceptional order. Panel fit is very good throughout and wheel arches etc razor sharp with no evidence of corrosion. Excellent original Carello and Altissimo lighting all around... Stunning.
The 5 Alfa pressed steel wheels have all been fully refurbished, the simple chromed center caps and exposed lug nuts are in exceptional order. Sitting on excellent all matching Pirelli Cinturato 165 HR14 tyres.
A fully overhauled double circuit servo-assisted brake system with all round discs offers a progressive feel at all speeds, positive and reassuring.
Fitted with the 1962cc 4 in-line twin-cam engine designed on classic Alfa Romeo lines and developed through vast Alfa racing experience.
A full photographic engine rebuild has just been completed, fitted with brand new Weber 40DCOE carburettors and has covered a mere 150 miles since. The 5-speed gearbox has been fully rebuilt by Nicol Transmissions, Kidderminster, and a new Sachs clutch fitted, total build cost in excess of £6,000. Other upgrades include an electric fuel pump, 123 electronic ignition, Bertone exhaust system, etc...
The history file documents regular annual servicing and recent upgrades running into thousands of pounds.
On the road she cannot not fail to impress, the clutch is light in operation, and gear changes slick and precise, starts hot or cold with ease. The Alfa's crisp exhaust note or the sweet Weber throat music... Magical
