The original interior was subject to an extensive re-trim by noted Tom Hampton of Hampton Coach Trimming, Wolverhampton at a cost of circa £7000.
Works included a complete and extensive re-trim all in the original red colourway, scalloped 'Dunlopillo' seats retrimmed in fine red leather, new deep pile carpets throughout with matching over mats, new sound deadening layer and underfelt, matching door cards with flawless chrome furniture, signature aluminium center console and dash facia, leather trimmed dash top, chrome aircraft style lap belts all present in perfect order.
All interior lighting, crystal clear Smiths gauges, switches and electrics work as they were intended. A wood rim 3 spoke steering wheel with original Jaguar boss completes this stunning interior... Exceptional attention to detail.
A full photographic restoration was carried out by Jules Bodycraft, Coven, Wolverhampton, over a 7 year period being summer 2016 to summer 2023. Painted in the original ex-factory colour of Jaguar Carmen Red, the paint finish and bodywork is magnificent with a uniform deep gloss shine throughout, perfect factory panel fit, shut lines and gaps. The underside finish is equally as impressive as the top... Simply outstanding.
'Originality' was key during the restoration, original brightwork was replated where possible or replaced with quality new items, Lucas lighting all around with better performing Lucas H4 halogen headlights and all glass unmarked.
A new correct specification black mohair hood fitted with new chrome trim and new hood frame by Hampton Coach Trimming. The hood opens and closes with ease and fits perfectly. A brand new black mohair full tonneau compliments this exceptional roadster... Simply wonderful
The 5 chrome 72 spoke wire wheels and 2-eared spinners are flawless and dressed with all matching excellent Dunlop SP Sport 185 VR15 tyres.
The brake system has been completely replaced giving the car excellent braking feel and capability. Servo-assisted disc brakes all round, three-piston calipers at the front and two-piston for the rear.
All new steering is precise and responsive, fully rebuilt suspension throughout... She handles beautifully.
The fully detailed engine and engine bay house the incredible Jaguar 3781cc straight 6 engine, 265 bhp at 5500 rpm, 260 ft-lb torque at 4000 rpm with triple 2-inch SU carburettors, high gloss black enamelled exhaust manifolds, electronic ignition and Powerlite starter motor.
The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate documents that this is a correct numbers matching car, original engine block, cylinder head and gearbox. The engine has been completely rebuilt to standard specification by Classic & Modern Engine Services, Bracknell, gearbox fully rebuilt by Classic Transmissions, Wolverhampton and has covered a mere 1600 miles since completion.
On the road she cannot fail to impress and what a joy to drive. The original Moss manual gearbox selects with ease, the clutch is light in operation, gear changes slick and precise and starts hot or cold without issue. The 3.8 Series crisp exhaust note is magical through the full stainless exhaust system with horned tailpipes.
Here we have a very rare post flat floor Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Series 1 Roadster.
Dating from the first ten months of production, chassis 876632 was completed on 25th January 1962 and despatched 27th February 1962 to Jaguar Cars of New York, USA. Possessing matching chassis, body, engine block, gearbox and back axle numbers, this E-Type retains a variety of very early build features such as the initial-style dashtop/vents, different profile chrome trim strips to the door tops, earlier-type butler lights for the rear license plate, larger diameter drive shafts and flat rear lower bulkhead.
Complete with a documented, extensive, ground up, bare metal restoration from 2016 to 2023 by noted Jaguar E-Type restoration specialists Jules Bodycraft, Coven, Wolverhampton.
The car was sourced by Jules Bodycraft for our client as being a good example to carry out a true nut and bolt restoration to his exacting standards with an exemplary eye to detail. The car was supplied by Hilltop Autos, Hanover, Massachusetts USA.
We have circa 350 images of the car before, during, and after restoration showing what extensive work has been carried out by Jules Bodycraft and their entrusted partners for specialist work. The total restoration cost exceeds £120,000 plus the cost of the car at £60,000. Since final completion in December 2023 she has only covered a mere 1688 miles.
Today this beautiful Series 1 Roadster presents in exceptional order throughout, including the fully detailed engine bay and underside.
The history file documents the vehicles 6 year restoration by Jules Bodycraft, Jaguar Heritage Certificate, 2 sets of keys, State of Illinois Certificate of Title detailing the Stateside owner Mr. Ray O Jacobs who took ownership of the car 24th February 1988, original chassis plates and detailed invoices totalling tens of thousands for the extensive restoration.
