The interior of this GTi is in excellent order with the sports seats finished in Black & Grey Stripe along with the matching unmarked cloth and vinyl covered door panels. The seats are in beautiful unmarked and wear free condition even the driver's side bolsters, perfect. The white headlining is mark free, the original black carpets are very good throughout. The original fascia and trim sections are perfect and all the controls work as they should even the digital computer and fuel consumption gauge work. The soft touch dash is unmarked and crack free, and the legendary golf ball gear-nob present. This interior represents everything you would expect from such an original car... Lovely.
Finished in original factory Schwartz Black the paintwork has a deep uniform shine with no flaws what so ever. The brand new mohair convertible hood fitted March 2018 looks superb. The framework is excellent and effortlessly operates manually to fold away neatly under the rear black factory tonneau. Originality is key with this lovely GTi even the original option code sticker and factory inspection stamp remain in the boot area, the bumpers, wheel arch trims, rubber and chrome side mouldings and all other body trim sections are excellent and scuff free. As you can see from the pictures the panel fit is as it left the factory, all glass, lights and original decals are perfect. Its evident that the car has been protected from an early age with a Ziebart type clear coat in all internal and potential water trap areas.
This Golf GTi is fitted with newly refurbished flawless original Tarantula alloy wheels with original VW centre caps. They are all shod with excellent quality 185/70 R13 Avon CR322 tyres and the original space saver spare wheel is as new. Brakes are excellent all round having a strong peddle feel pulling sharply and true.
The legendary 4 cylinder 1.8 Bosch Fuel Injected engine producing 112 bhp is smooth and performs strongly giving an excellent and very responsive performance. It starts on the key first time and idles perfectly. A top speed of 113 mph and 0-60 in 9 seconds make this a fun car which cannot fail to impress. The 5 speed manual gearbox changes perfectly and the clutch is light and smooth in operation. Great fun to drive. The engine bay is very clean and detailed throughout.

The GTI was unveiled to the general public and motoring press at the September 1975 Frankfurt Motor Show, the car however wasn't available to buy until June 1976 due to the engineers insistence that the new GTI should satisfy the same levels of quality and reliability that every production VW adhered to, a commitment that almost certainly lead to the longevity of the GTI when compared to its peers such as the XR3, Astra GTE and Peugeot 205 GTI.
The convertible was built entirely at Karmann's facility in Osnabruck, with VW supplying the interiors and running gear to be bolted to the in-house manufactured body. Engines were offered in pretty much every format that the hard top Golf had received (1100-1800cc, both carb. and injected) with the exception of the diesel.
The car remained essentially unchanged until 1982, when the hood design was altered so that it folded flatter, to aid rear visibility. In 1984 the Cabrio was subjected to a few updates, to drawer it more in line with the newly launched Mk2 Golf, so the rear seat received a "split" type design, and the fuel tank was increased from 40-55L with the addition of a space-saver type spare wheel. Karmann confirmed 388,522 Cabrios being produced between 1979 and 1991.
