The original specification black interior presents beautifully. The leather seats are in perfect condition with no averse wear and firm seat cushions. The original crackle finish dashboard presents like new. Kangol static seatbelts have been fitted, the original 3-spoke Banjo MG steering wheel with Octagon centre boss has now been fitted plus a smaller flat Mota-lita leather steering wheel is included. Overdrive is selected via gear knob switch rather than the dashboard mounted switch.
All original Smiths clocks and gauges work perfectly and have crystal clear glass. Switches work as they were intended as does the heater... Simply stunning.
The original body shell was subject to a full bare metal body restoration by Octagon Services of Witney. The entire body was extensively prepared for painting with detailed job sheets of work completed totalling circa £4000 in 1990.
The body was then taken to Premier Marque Sportscar Workshop Ltd, Chiswick London for painting in August 1991. Underside of front wings and underside of the car were treated with plastic rubberised stonechip and finished in body colour, the car was then painted in the original colour of British Racing Green at a cost of £2500. The paint finish and bodywork are still outstanding and blemish free today with factory panel fit, perfect shut lines and gaps. A full photographic log of the restoration is included in the history file showing the attention to detail that went into the preparation of this lovely MGC before the final paint being applied.
All original bumpers, grill, bumper overriders, headlamp rims, quarter lights, screen centre rod, gear lever surround, plus a list of assorted smaller parts were all re-chromed by Classic Chroming Company, Stamore, Middlesex.
The new black roof and frame unmarked with perfectly clear screens. All original Triplex glass again unmarked, the opening quarter lights operate perfectly.
The 72 spoke painted wire wheels and chrome 2 ear spinners are in fantastic blemish free order. Sitting on all matching Vredestein Sprint Plus S80 165/R15 tyres and have plenty of tread remaining.
The servo assisted brakes have been completely overhauled, enamelled hubs, recent new front brake calipers, needless to say the braking power is excellent. The steering is precise and responsive, she handles beautifully.
The original water-cooled o.h.v. six-cylinder in-line 2912cc engine is superb. The engine was fully and comprehensively rebuilt by Oselli Engineering, Oxford. The history file contains the original invoice totalling £1971.42 and detailed description of work carried out and completed July 1990.
Needless to say on the road she responds superbly, pulls strong in every gear, perfect oil pressure and idles faultlessly. Overdrive in 3rd and 4th gears which operates in and out very smoothly, the gearbox and brand new clutch are light and precise, she sounds glorious through the full stainless steel exhaust system, that six-cylinder sound is simply… Magical
A comprehensive service has been completed just 31 miles ago.
Originally registered new in the UK this MGC was then privately exported by Lieutenant Commander J.H. Straw to Jackson Tenessee July 1969. The history file contains the original British Leyland Passport to Service book documenting the first owner and various service stamps all carried out in Fairfax Virginia.
Returning back to the UK from Houston Texas in February 1989 by Mr Miller who instructed the extensive bare metal ground up restoration. The history file documents every detail of the restoration, every stage is supported by handwritten instructions by Mr Miller the lists are detailed to every nut bot and washer, over 1375 items listed for zinc plating, many original components enameled and re-chromed. Mr Miller was the official historian to the T-type section of the worldwide MG Car Club so only the best and approved companies were chosen for his restoration.
The files are packed with hundreds of invoices and receipts for parts and work carried out plus many pictures of the car before, during and after restoration supporting the passion and detail that has gone into restoring this exceptional MGC now over 30 years ago. Returning back to the road fully complete in July 1992 and 31 past MOT certificates on file.
The Heritage Certificate proves this MGC is a matching numbers car built with a black interior, black roof, painted wire wheels and in British Racing Green.
This MGC presents as if it was completed only a few months ago. The detailed servicing and maintenance run from 1989 through to the present day showing the love and passion that has gone into this outstanding car. Since completion in 1992 she has had only 2 further keepers. We originally purchased the car from the second owner and now two years later have the pleasure of selling her again.
This is an excellent opportunity to own a stunning obsessively restored MGC Roadster with long term ownership and incredible documented history files detailing its journey through life.
