Interior & Equipment
The interior of this Sport Leicht (SL) is in excellent order with the sports seats finished in Mushroom Sports Check (075) along with the matching unmarked cloth covered door and side panels. The seats are in beautiful unmarked and wear free condition the driver's side bolsters are in perfect order. The original cream plush carpets are excellent throughout as are the factory option genuine Mercedes luxury tailored overmats. The original wood veneer, fascia and trim sections are perfect, all controls, gauges and electrics work as they were intended as does the optional extra Blaupunkt Munchen RD 104 Stereo, the soft touch dash is unmarked and crack free. The boot area has factory build stickers in place, original jack and original unused tool roll. This interior represents everything you would expect from such a low mileage example. Wonderful...
Exterior
Finished in original factory Signal Red (268), the paintwork has a deep bright uniform shine with no flaws what so ever. The matching number hard top in signal red (268) is perfect, hood brightwork all excellent as is the cream perforated headlining and comes complete with a hardtop stand. The original Mercedes-Benz factory fit black hood is in exceptional order with crystal clear screens and free from any adverse wear. All brightwork has a mirror finish, rubber side mouldings and all other body trim sections are excellent and scuff free. As you can see from the pictures the panel fit is as per it left the factory, all glass, lights and decals are in perfect order.
Wheels, Tyres & Brakes
This 420SL is fitted with newly refurbished flawless 15 hole Mercedes forged light alloy wheels with original center caps all shod with new quality Michelin Energy 205/65 R15 tyres. The full size alloy spare wheel has never been fitted and is housed neatly in the boot area alongside the Mercedes, tool roll and warning triangle. Dual-circuit servo assisted fixed-caliper vented disc brakes all round and anti-lock braking offer powerful and reassuring stopping capabilities.
Engine & Transmission
The new light aluminium V8 fuel injected engine set new standards in terms of output and consumption, producing 218bhp at 5200rpm and 243lb ft of torque achieving a top speed of 133mph whilst offering incredible reliability. The engine bay is spotless and retains all manufacturer stickers, plates and panel stampings, this originality is impossible to replicate. The powerful and dynamic 4.2 engine is smooth and responsive, combined with the torque-converter four-speed automatic transmission and limited slip differential it offers pure driving pleasure.
Summary
Registered new to Mrs Oliver on the 9th July 1987 by Mercedes Main Dealers Jacksons Garage, Longueville, Jersey, Channel Islands. This amazing example has covered a mere 55,000 miles with just three documented keepers. The history file is incredible starting with the original Mercedes plastic wallet housing the fully stamped service book, handbook, dealership literature and original Mercedes-Benz sales brochure. This stunning SL came to the UK 19th May 2000 and was purchased by the second owner Mr Richard Hallett. Mr Hallett has included a documented time line of all work carried out during his ownership until selling on to the 3rd and last owner Mrs Walters on 7th October 2009.
The history file contains a huge collection of main dealer and specialist invoices and receipts for servicing and repairs. A long with every MOT proving its low mileage the devotion to this SL by its former keeper is second to none.
